Trista Fintel Notches MAC Field Athlete of the Week Honors
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- Trista Fintel capped off her outstanding week in the throws circle with a MAC Field Athlete of the Week honor.
The graduate student transfer from the University of Findlay won both the hammer throw and shot put events at last week's Last Chance Meet hosted by Hillsdale.
Her hammer throw toss of 63.48m was a personal best by nearly four meters and is currently ranked first in the MAC, 14th on the NCAA East Regional Qualifying List and 33rd in all of Division I heading into the MAC Championships. The top 48 marks in the region qualify for the NCAA East Regional which will take place at the end of the month for a chance to compete at the NCAA Championships in June.
The throw also launched Fintel into elite BGSU company. Only three-time NCAA Championships qualifiers Brooke Pleger (69.72m, 2015) and Kaila Butler (69.35m, 2022) have ever thrown the hammer further than Fintel did this past week in program history.
Also, Fintel's shot put throw of 16.07m at the meet was just 0.01m off her personal best.
This is Fintel's third career MAC Field Athlete of the Week honor, having won twice during the indoor season. She is the first BGSU track or field athlete to win the weekly award during the outdoor season since teammate Mateya Haintz did it back on March 27, 2024.
While at Findlay, Fintel claimed a Division II national championship in the indoor shot put. She is also a seven-time Division II All-American and an eight-time Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Field Athlete of the Week as well as a first-team All-MAC performer during this past indoor season. BGSU throws coach Marcus Myers attended the same high school, Patrick Henry HS, as Fintel and shared the same throws coach, Matthew Furko.
