Victories A Plenty as Track & Field Dominates Hillsdale’s Last Chance Meet

HILLSDALE, Mich. – Following a weekend cut short by miserable, rainy weather at Ohio State's Jesse Owens Classic, the BGSU track & field squad was looking for one last chance to tune up for next week's highly anticipated MAC Championships.

Fortunately, the Falcons got a sunny, 72-degree day in southern Michigan to provide them just that.

At Hillsdale's Last Chance Meet, BGSU notched eight victories with eight top 10 performers in program history to gain some momentum and confidence heading into the conference meet.

Morgan Patterson shined in the 100m hurdles, winning the event (13.72) and breaking her own school record she set last year at the MAC Championships. DaMya Barker (13.99) and Christabelle Obi (14.28) also ran in the finals.

Trista Fintel stole the show in her throwing events. With her first-place toss of 63.48m in the hammer throw elite section, the graduate transfer from Findlay joined some exclusive company – becoming the third-best performer in the event in program history.

Only three-time NCAA Championships qualifiers Brooke Pleger (69.72m, 2015) and Kaila Butler (69.35m, 2022) have had better throws in the event than Fintel, as she bested her previous PR by nearly four meters.

Fintel also won the shot put (16.07m) and was just 0.01m off her PR.

Rachael Hoover notched a victory in the 800m (2:07.61) to become the second-best performer in program history in the event. It was only 0.14 seconds off the school record set by Tracy Gaerke in 1989. Fellow freshman Reese Reaman (2:10.04) came in third.

Graduate student Katherine Mendenhall earned a title in the high jump with a PR of 1.75m, while Kiersten Franklin took gold in the 100m (11.64). Franklin became the third-best performer in the event in program history.

The 4x400m relay quartet of Franklin, Reagan Campbell, Alexis Parchman and Barker took first with a mark of 3:42.54, while Bianca Staples became the third-longest performer in the triple jump in BGSU history with her 12.76m mark that won.

Five discus throwers finished in the top 10, led by Sierra Brinson (46.04m, second) and Emma Hoffman (42.48m, fourth). Grace Bradtmueller (41.38m), Sierra Podolan (39.14m) and Ava Wojciechowski (37.73) rounded out the Falcon finishers in the event.

Emma Hellwege was runner-up in the 1,500m (4:50.43), while Mendenhall took fifth in the javelin (34.51m).

The other top finishers for BGSU in their respective events were Sydney Burrs (fourth, 400m hurdles), Syerra Greber (fifth, 200m), Patterson (sixth, long jump), Campbell (seventh, 400m) and Karma Williams (ninth, hammer throw open).
