Falcons Kick Season Off With Third Place Effort At Tommy Evans Invitational
NORTON, Ohio – A 25-minute rain delay did not deter the Bowling Green women's cross country team in their season debut at the beautiful Silver Creek Cross Country Couse. The Falcons placed third in a field of 10 teams and scored 91 points at Akron's Tommy Evans Invitational in a 5K race on the same course that the NCAA Great Lakes Regional will take place at in November.
The star of the race for BG was Kailee Perry, who is the best returner from last season. The graduate student paced the Falcons with a second-place finish in a time of 17:53.7.
"It was a really good opener for her," head coach Lou Snelling said about Perry. "She races a certain way by putting herself out in the race early, and she did that today. She made some really good decisions throughout the race. It's going to be cool to see where she'll take it as she gets sharper and more fit throughout the season."
Kylee Cubbison also placed in the top 10 by finishing in seventh with an 18:10.4 mark.
Regina Rose ran 18:51.3, which slotted her in 27th while Rachael Withrow came in 37th in 19:08.5. Madison Foster – a Michigan State transfer – debuted in the orange and brown with a 40th place finish in 19:13.1. Izzy Best (62nd, 20:05.4) and Nora Ritting (82nd, 20:44.1) rounded out the BG competitors.
"I'm happy with the effort," Snelling said. "We saw success out of all three groups of core runners, returners and newcomers. I think we'll build into a place where our depth is going to be really solid this year."
Bowling Green will be back in action at the We Fly Championship Preview hosted by Ball State on Saturday, September 14.
