Funding will elevate the University's contributions to overall safety in one of America's safest college towns
By Michael Bratton
Located in one of America's safest college towns, Bowling Green State University recently received $500,000 from the state of Ohio to enhance campus safety for the learning community.
Awarded through the Ohio Campus Safety Grant program, funding for BGSU will be used to upgrade and install new security camera infrastructure in high traffic and pedestrian areas across campus.
BGSU Police Chief Mike Campbell said the improvements will elevate the University's contributions to overall safety in the city of Bowling Green, which is ranked Ohio's second safest college town and among the top 50 in the nation.
"This funding will allow BGSU to enhance the robust safety measures we already have in place and to further promote a safe and welcoming learning community," Campbell said. "We pride ourselves on providing quality, community-focused police service that contributes to and bolsters a safe learning environment in one of the nation's safest college towns. We are grateful to the state for further supporting strengthened safety initiatives for BGSU students, faculty and staff and the greater community."
BGSU is one of only 28 schools statewide to receive funding this round and was awarded the most money of any college or university in northwest Ohio after conducting a self-security assessment.
Home to the only CALEA accredited college or university affiliated law enforcement agency in the region, BGSU has secured state safety grant funding annually since the program's 2021 inception.
