Bowling Green Athletics Continues to Achieve Academic Success
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University athletics program continues to shine academically, as evidenced by the NCAA's release of the latest Academic Progress Rate (APR) Institutional Report today (May 6). The Falcons posted strong results across the board, including seven teams earning perfect multi-year APR scores and 12 teams recording a perfect single-year APR for the 2023-24 academic year.
Seven Falcon teams — Men's Golf, Ice Hockey, Women's Basketball, Women's Cross Country, Women's Golf, Gymnastics, and Volleyball — achieved a perfect 1,000 multi-year APR. As a department, BGSU posted a 988 four-year APR average, well above the NCAA minimum standard of 930 and ahead of the national average of 984.
Additionally, 12 teams earned a perfect 1,000 single-year APR score for the 2023-24 academic year:
Baseball, Men's Basketball, Men's Golf, Ice Hockey, Women's Basketball, Women's Cross Country, Women's Golf, Gymnastics, Women's Soccer, Swim & Dive, Tennis, and Volleyball.
BGSU led the Mid-American Conference with seven teams posting perfect multi-year APR rates. They shared the spot with Western Michigan.
The APR offers a real-time snapshot of a program's academic success by tracking the eligibility and retention of student-athletes each semester. It reflects both academic eligibility and continued enrollment, with teams earning up to two points per student-athlete per term. The current multi-year scores reflect data from the 2020-21 through 2023-24 academic years.
Implemented in 2003, the APR was created to ensure institutions are held accountable for the academic progress of their student-athletes.
These outstanding results reflect BGSU Athletics' continued commitment to academic excellence and the success of its student-athletes both on the field and in the classroom.
