Falcons Wrap Up Weekend Series In Kalamazoo
KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Bowling Green State University baseball team concluded the weekend series against Western Michigan on Sunday (April 13). After a Bowling Green win on Saturday, BGSU and WMU took to a rubber match on Sunday. Garrett Wright connected on a solo home run in the first before two Bronco runs in the bottom half. The Falcons tied the game in the fourth, but WMU reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the fourth, expanding their lead to the 9-2 final through the later innings. BGSU drops down to 23-11 on the season while being 12-6 within MAC play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the second at-bat of the game, Garrett Wright launched a solo shot to left field, freezing fielders, to quickly put a 1-0 lead on the board for BGSU.
- Western Michigan answered in the bottom half with a pair of runs, moving in front with a 2-1 score.
- In the fourth inning, Brayden Curlis and Carter Mottice registered back-to-back singles to put runners at the corners. Alex Laird laid down a bunt, but a fielder's choice got Curlis at home. TJ Takats followed with a single up the middle, bringing home Mottice for a 2-2 tie.
- The Broncos added a run in the bottom of the fourth, reclaiming the lead with a 3-2 score. WMU tacked on four more in the fifth and a home run in the sixth for an 8-2 advantage.
- In the eighth inning, WMU stretched their lead to 9-2 with an additional run, the eventual final.

- Brayden Curlis logged a base hit for the Falcons, giving him a hit in four of the last five games with a total of eight hits over the stretch.
- Brady Birchmeier tallied two hits for the Falcons, marking his 12th multi-hit game of the season.
- Owen Poole pitched 1.1 innings of scoreless baseball for the Falcons. Poole now hasn't allowed an earned run in four consecutive appearances, spanning 4.2 innings.

Bowling Green will stay on the road for their midweek, taking on Purdue Fort Wayne on Tuesday (April 15) with a 3 p.m. start in Fort Wayne, Ind. From there, the Falcons will return home to host Ball State Thursday-Saturday (April 17-19).

Being tied at the conclusion of every inning entering the eighth, Brady Birchmeier and Sam Seidel changed the script. Birchmeier doubled to the outfield with Alex Laird entering as a pinch runner. In the next at-bat, Seidel launched a two-run shot to right field, pushing BGSU in front for the 4-2 win. The win moves Bowling Green to 33-20 to conclude the regular season and 19-11 in the MAC before beginning the MAC Tournament on Wednesday (May 21).
