Falcons Record Fourth Straight Win With 11-4 Victory Over Presbyterian
CLINTON, S.C. – The Bowling Green State University baseball team continued their hot start to the season, topping Presbyterian in an 11-4 final on Saturday (Feb. 22). The Falcons tallied five in the first inning, maintaining the lead without an extra base hit in the game while tallying 17 total base knocks. With the win, Bowling Green advances to 4-1 on the young season and has clinched four wins in their first two weekends for the first time since 2007.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Gunner Antillon began the game with a full count single through the right side of the infield before stealing second to move into scoring position. DJ Newman brought Antillon home with a single into shallow left center for the first run of the game.
- TJ Takats kept the rally going with a single. A double steal from Newman and Takats put both in second position, standing on second and third with one out. Brady Birchmeier delivered a single up the middle, scoring both Newman and Takats for a 3-0 BGSU lead.
- Sam Seidel continued the first inning rally with another single up the middle. Zack Horky stepped in and brought home both Birchmeier and Seidel to push the lead to 5-0 before the BGSU defense took the field.
- Presbyterian answered with a run in the bottom half for a 5-1 score.
- After a scoreless second, Newman began the third inning with a single. Another single, this time off the bat of Takats, put runners at the corners. The single train continued with one from Birchmeier, scoring Newman to prompt a pitching change with no outs in the third and a 6-1 BGSU lead.
- The Blue Hose added one in the fourth and another in the fifth to cut the lead down to 6-3.
- The Falcons answered in the sixth. Horky was hit by a pitch to start the inning. A single for Antillon put two on, setting up an RBI single up the middle for Garrett Wright.
- Newman drew a walk to load the bases, setting up a Takats sacrifice fly to center, scoring Antillon for an 8-3 advantage.
- The Falcons added another in the seventh. Alex Laird reached on a fielder's choice, took second on a passed ball and scored on an Antillon base hit to push the lead to 9-3.
- Moving to the eighth, Takats walked and Seidel singled to put runners at the corners. McKenzie put a ball into shallow right field to score both Seidel and Takats for an 11-3 tally.
