BGSU Completes Weekend Sweep Over Eastern Michigan With 8-4 Win
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team completed the weekend sweep over Eastern Michigan, registering an 8-4 victory on Sunday (April 27) at Steller Field. A four-run first inning catapulted the Falcons in front, stretching their lead to as large as 7-1 before securing the 8-4 final. Landon Willeman started the game for BGSU, giving up just one run in 4.2 innings of work before handing the ball over to Ty Roder who finished out the game from there. As a team, the Falcons saw every player in the lineup log a hit, totaling 14 as a team, all singles. Bowling Green now moves to 28-14 on the year while being 16-8 within the MAC.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Falcons struck first in the game. Gunner Antillon sent a single up the middle on the first EMU pitch of the day. Garrett Wright followed with a shallow single to left center, putting runners at the corners. Gavin Ganun was able to flare an inside pitch to the opposite field, singling to right field to score Antillon for a 1-0 lead.
- Zack Horky kept the rally going with a single into center, bringing home Wright. Caden Parker followed suit with a single to right, scoring Ganun for a 3-0 advantage.
- With two outs in the second inning, Wright singled through the left side before taking both second and third on the same wild pitch, hustling around the bases. Ganun made it count, legging out an infield single that scored Wright for a 4-0 BGSU lead.
- The Falcons extended their lead in the fourth inning. Wright reached on an error before singles from Ganun and TJ Takats loaded the bases. A two-out walk to Parker pushed home Wright for a 5-0 score.
- Eastern Michigan tallied a run in the top of the fifth to get on the board with a 5-1 score.
- In the sixth inning, Takats singled through the right side, stole second and took third on a throwing error. Parker drew a walk to put runners at the corners. Brayden Curlis was able to poke a single through the right side of the infield, scoring Takats for a 6-1 BGSU lead.
- Carter Mottice walked to load the bases, prompting an EMU pitching change. A passed ball in the next at bat was enough for Parker to score, stretching the Bowling Green lead to 7-1.
- In the seventh, EMU had two runs cross home for a 7-3 tally.
- Bowling Green added insurance in the eighth. Parker drew a two-out walk, took second on a throwing error on a failed pick off and then advanced to third on a wild pitch. A single into center for Curlis brought home Parker for an 8-3 lead.
- Eastern Michigan challenged with a run in the ninth, but BGSU halted the comeback effort with an 8-4 final.
