BGSU Announces “Campaign for Our Future” to Enhance Baseball Facility
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Bowling Green State University Athletics is excited to publicly announce a campaign to raise funds to support enhancements at Steller Field. Through generous philanthropic gifts to the Steller Field Improvement Fund, donors will be able to support the installation of a new synthetic turf playing surface and perimeter fencing, enhancing the BGSU baseball team's ability to train and compete throughout the year.
The estimated cost of the first phase of this project is $2.3 million and the goal is to meet fundraising benchmarks to start the project after the 2025 baseball season.
To support the success of this phase of the fundraising campaign, Board of Trustees member Paul J. Hooker '75 has generously agreed to match gifts up to $500,000 between now and January 31, 2025.
"This project has been a critical mission to our baseball team, supporters, alumni, and fans the last couple of years," said Director of Athletics Derek van der Merwe. "BGSU Baseball Head Coach Kyle Hallock has taken steps to comprehensively improve all aspects of our program and to position it for success. This project is another critical step in helping this program to thrive in intercollegiate baseball."
The BGSU baseball team, which won the 2024 MAC regular-season championship with a record of 24 wins, will see significant benefits from the installation of turf. The new field will enhance playability and reliability, particularly during the critical early-season months when turf is essential for outdoor baseball. It will also extend fall ball sessions into late autumn, preventing weather-related disruptions.
"The next step for the BGSU Baseball program is to enhance our facility in a manner that matches the level of play our athletes are producing on the field," said BGSU Head Baseball Coach Kyle Hallock. "These upgrades will reflect our alumni, friends of the program, athletic department and university's commitment to Falcon Baseball. Thank you to everyone, from coast to coast, who continues supporting our players and our program. Your assistance in helping us reach our recent project goals is a direct contribution to our past, current, and future successes."
BGSU Baseball has already secured pledged donations and verbal commitments from a significant number of alumni and supporters of the program. As we round third on this campaign, this is your opportunity to help us reach our goal and support the further development of this program.
