The 2025 Falcons put their mark on the BGSU Record Book and the pair of games in the MAC Tournament were no different. As a pitching staff, BGSU pushed their season total for innings pitched to 480.1 innings this year, breaking the program record. Garrett Wright also ripped his 20th double of the season, breaking the program single-season doubles record. Connar Penrod brought his ERA down to 1.65, the fourth-best in program history and the best since 1974. The list continues for the Falcons with others adding their names to various top 10 lists as well.

HOW IT HAPPENED, GAME 1

  • Gunner Antillon was hit by a pitch to start the bottom of the first. He took second on a wild pitch, third on a grounder and then scored on another wild pitch for the first run of the game.
  • Four consecutive walks followed to Brady Birchmeier, Zack Horky, Sam Seidel and Gavin Ganun before Caden Parker was hit by a pitch. Birchmeier scored on Ganun's walk and Horky scored on Parker's HBP, giving BGSU a 3-0 lead.

  • The bottom half of the second started the same as the first with Antillon being hit by a pitch. A walk to Garrett Wright and a wild pitch moved both runners up. Birchmeier was able to rope a single up the middle, scoring both Antillon and Wright for a 9-7 tally.
  • At 10:25 a.m. the game went into a rain delay before being resumed at 5 p.m.
  • Toledo tallied the first runs of the post-rain delay action with three crossing in the top of the fifth, extending the lead 12-7.

The rally kept going with Birchmeier ripping a double down the third base line, scoring Antillon for a 12-11 score at the end of the fifth.
  • The back-and-forth continued into the sixth inning with Toledo adding two in the top of the sixth to push the score to 14-11.

FALCON STAT FACTS

  • PItching a combined 19 innings as a team between the two games, the Falcons broke the program record for innings pitched in a season with 480.1, previously set at 479.1 by the 2013 squad.
  • Garrett Wright logged a double in the fifth inning of the second game, his 20th double of the season, breaking the program record and becoming the first Falcon in program history with 20 two-baggers in a year.
  • Wright continued his trek through the single-season record book with hits as well. He tallied three hits over the two games to give him 82 for the season, tying for fifth all-time in program history with Ryan Shay's 2009 season. Wright finished the season with a seven-game hitting streak as well.
  • Connar Penrod tossed two innings for the Falcons. Not allowing an earned run, the outing brings Penrod's ERA to 1.65 to conclude the season, the fourth-best ERA in a single-season by a Falcon ever and the best since 1974.

He concludes the season with a nine-game on-base streak and a seven-game hitting streak. Birchmeier also had two hits, three RBI and at least one run scored in both games of the tournament.
