- BGSU took the first meeting this year between the teams, winning 8-3 at Fifth Third Field on May 2, but Toledo claimed both games of a doubleheader at Scott Park on May 3 with 8-3 and 8-1 final scores in the games.
Scouting Northern Illinois
The Huskies enter the week with a 20-31 overall standing while being 8-19 against MAC opponents. With no midweek on the schedule, the next contest for NIU will be the weekend slate against BGSU. Strikingly Close To Repeating History
For the second straight year, the Falcons have a chance to break the program record for strikeouts in a season as a team. After the record stood for 25 years with the 1999 team striking out 368 batters, the 2024 BGSU squad broke the record with 403 strikeouts. Now, the 2025 team is within range to do it again. This year's team has tallied 387 strikeouts so far this season, needing 16 to match the record. Over the last week of games, the Falcon pitching staff registered 29 strikeouts over the four games. Jacob Turner has led the way for BGSU with 48 strikeouts followed by Landon Willeman with 40.
Falcons Nearing Program Milestone
As a team, Bowling Green is sitting just three wins away from checking off program win 1,800. Dating back to 1915 with the first varsity season in 1918, the Falcons have currently won 1,797 baseball games during the program's history. The 1,700 milestone was reached during the 2022 campaign, leaving what would be three years between milestones if BGSU hits the mark. The three-year span ties for the shortest time span between milestones in program history with three years being the difference between milestones five times previously. The most recent was between wins 1,400 and 1,500 which came in 2007 and 2010. The last 121 wins for BGSU have come under Head Coach Kyle Hallock with the previous 723 victories being under Danny Schmitz over his 30 years at the helm of the program.
Horky's Hitting Streak
Zack Horky is in the midst of a 13-game hitting streak for the Falcons, the longest hitting streak by a BGSU player this season. Horky now sits two games away from adding his name to the BGSU record book. Currently, the record book has eight names under the longest hitting streaks in a season with the last spot being occupied by DJ Newman's 15 from the 2024 season. For Horky, he's batting .375 (21-for-56) during the streak with 15 RBI, eight runs scored and four doubles. Horky also currently leads the team with the longest active on-base streak, sitting at 20 games.
