Falcons Fall To Golden Flashes In Series Finale
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team wrapped up the weekend series against Kent State on Sunday (March 23) at Steller Field. The Falcons jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but Kent State answered in the second, beginning a back-and-forth between the teams. BGSU tied the game in the eighth inning at 6-6, but a three-run home run for the Golden Flashes in the ninth pushed them in front for the 9-6 final. BGSU moved to 16-7 on the season while being 7-2 in MAC play. One game remains in the Falcons' homestand, hosting Youngstown State on Tuesday (March 25) for a 3 p.m. start.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Garrett Wright and DJ Newman each logged an infield single in the bottom of the first. A Brady Birchmeier walk loaded the bases before a Sam Seidel single to center brought home Wright and Newman for a 2-0 BGSU lead.
- In the top of the second Kent State added two runs to tie the game before moving in front in the top of the third with two more for a 4-2 score.
- In the bottom half of the third, Wright started the inning with a single to center. Birchmeier smacked a single up the middle to put two on for the Falcons. A double to left center for Seidel brought home Wright for the first run before a fielder's choice off the bat of Cooper McKenzie scored Birchmeier to tie the game at 4-4.
- In the top of the fourth KSU moved back in front with two runs for a 6-4 advantage.
- Caden Parker doubled to lead off the sixth inning and stole third. Gavin Ganun drew a walk to put runners on the corners for BGSU.Gunner Antillon singled to right center, driving in Parker to cut the lead down to one, 6-5.
- Parker led off the eighth inning with a base hit as well. A double for Ganun put runners on second and third before Antillon was hit by a pitch to load the bases. TJ Takats was able to hit into a fielder's choice, tying the game 6-6.
- In the top of the ninth Kent State hit a three run home run to take the lead, 9-6.
- The Falcons threatened in the bottom of the ninth with a Birchmeier solo home run, making it a 9-7 score.

FALCON STAT FACTS
- Owen Poole tossed three scoreless innings for the Falcons in relief, striking out two in the process. Poole now has three straight scoreless outings, totaling seven innings of work and eight strikeouts. Poole's three innings against Kent State were all one-two-three sequences, not allowing a runner.
- Brady Birchmeier launched his team-leading eighth home run of the season, increasing his RBI total to 31 for the season as well.
- Caden Parker logged two hits for Bowling Green in the game, extending his on-base streak to a team-high 15 games.
- Garrett Wright recorded two hits as well to increase his on-base streak, now at 12 games which is second on the team behind Parker.
- Sam Seidel tallied a pair of hits for the Falcons, pushing his hitting streak to a team-high seven games for the Falcons. Over the seven-game stretch, he has seven RBI and seven runs scored.
- After being held hitless on Saturday, DJ Newman logged a hit and scored a run for BGSU. Newman now has at least one hit and one run scored in seven of the last eight games.
UP NEXT
The Falcons will wrap up their current homestand on Tuesday (March 25) with a 3 p.m. start against Youngstown State at Steller Field. From there, BGSU will go on the road for a weekend MAC series against Central Michigan.

At this time, no makeup date has been set for the contest. The Falcons and Spartans last played in 2022 with Bowling Green claiming a 12-3 victory in East Lansing.
- Connar Penrod Named MAC Pitcher Of The WeekCLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced the MAC Player and Pitcher of the Week Monday afternoon (March 31). Of those named, Connar Penrod earned the Pitcher of the Week honor. This marks the first honor of Penrod's BGSU career while being the second for the Falcons after Brady Birchmeier was named MAC Co-Player of the Week on March 17.
- Falcons Complete First Sweep At Central In Program History With Extra Innings VictoryMOUNT PLEASANT, MICH. – The Bowling Green State University baseball team finished off the three-game weekend series sweep over Central Michigan on Sunday (March 30) with a 6-5 extra innings win. The sweep marks the first for BGSU on the road at CMU in program history. Connar Penrod closed down the save for Bowling Green, his third of the weekend and eighth of the season. Penrod is now tied for the program record for saves in a season while the team as a whole is also tied for the program record for saves in a season. The Falcons advance to 20-7 on the year while being 10-2 within the MAC.
- Penrod Shuts Down Central For Two Saves As Falcons Sweep DoubleheaderMOUNT PLEASANT, MICH. – The Bowling Green State University baseball team picked up a pair of wins over the Central Michigan Chippewas on Friday (March 28), claiming both games of a doubleheader. Connar Penrod came on for the save in both games, pushing him up to a tie for third in program history for single-season saves. With the wins, Bowling Green advances to 19-7 through 26 games this season while being 9-2 within MAC play. BGSU and CMU will have Saturday (March 29) off now due to weather before concluding the series on Sunday (March 30) at 11 a.m.
