Falcons Fall To Golden Flashes In Series Finale
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team wrapped up the weekend series against Kent State on Sunday (March 23) at Steller Field. The Falcons jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning, but Kent State answered in the second, beginning a back-and-forth between the teams. BGSU tied the game in the eighth inning at 6-6, but a three-run home run for the Golden Flashes in the ninth pushed them in front for the 9-6 final. BGSU moved to 16-7 on the season while being 7-2 in MAC play. One game remains in the Falcons' homestand, hosting Youngstown State on Tuesday (March 25) for a 3 p.m. start.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Garrett Wright and DJ Newman each logged an infield single in the bottom of the first. A Brady Birchmeier walk loaded the bases before a Sam Seidel single to center brought home Wright and Newman for a 2-0 BGSU lead.
- In the top of the second Kent State added two runs to tie the game before moving in front in the top of the third with two more for a 4-2 score.
- In the bottom half of the third, Wright started the inning with a single to center. Birchmeier smacked a single up the middle to put two on for the Falcons. A double to left center for Seidel brought home Wright for the first run before a fielder's choice off the bat of Cooper McKenzie scored Birchmeier to tie the game at 4-4.
- In the top of the fourth KSU moved back in front with two runs for a 6-4 advantage.
- Caden Parker doubled to lead off the sixth inning and stole third. Gavin Ganun drew a walk to put runners on the corners for BGSU.Gunner Antillon singled to right center, driving in Parker to cut the lead down to one, 6-5.
- Parker led off the eighth inning with a base hit as well. A double for Ganun put runners on second and third before Antillon was hit by a pitch to load the bases. TJ Takats was able to hit into a fielder's choice, tying the game 6-6.
- In the top of the ninth Kent State hit a three run home run to take the lead, 9-6.
- The Falcons threatened in the bottom of the ninth with a Birchmeier solo home run, making it a 9-7 score.

FALCON STAT FACTS
- Owen Poole tossed three scoreless innings for the Falcons in relief, striking out two in the process. Poole now has three straight scoreless outings, totaling seven innings of work and eight strikeouts. Poole's three innings against Kent State were all one-two-three sequences, not allowing a runner.
- Brady Birchmeier launched his team-leading eighth home run of the season, increasing his RBI total to 31 for the season as well.
- Caden Parker logged two hits for Bowling Green in the game, extending his on-base streak to a team-high 15 games.
- Garrett Wright recorded two hits as well to increase his on-base streak, now at 12 games which is second on the team behind Parker.
- Sam Seidel tallied a pair of hits for the Falcons, pushing his hitting streak to a team-high seven games for the Falcons. Over the seven-game stretch, he has seven RBI and seven runs scored.
- After being held hitless on Saturday, DJ Newman logged a hit and scored a run for BGSU. Newman now has at least one hit and one run scored in seven of the last eight games.
UP NEXT
The Falcons will wrap up their current homestand on Tuesday (March 25) with a 3 p.m. start against Youngstown State at Steller Field. From there, BGSU will go on the road for a weekend MAC series against Central Michigan.

- Wright, Penrod Named To ABCA/Rawlings All-East Region First TeamGREENSBORO, N.C. – The American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and Rawlings announced the NCAA Division I All-Region Teams for all eight regions Tuesday morning (June 10). Of those named, both Garrett Wright and Connar Penrod earned First Team All-East Region honors for Bowling Green. This marks the first All-Region honor for both Wright and Penrod.
- BGSU Baseball Lands Four On CSC Academic All-District® TeamBOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Four members of the Bowling Green State University baseball team have been named to the 2024-25 Academic All-District® Team, selected by College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA). Gavin Ganun, Luke Krouse, Landon Willeman and Garrett Wright all were named to the team with Wright being selected as a finalist for CSC Academic All-America status. The Academic All-America teams will be announced on July 1. As for BGSU, the four selections are the second-most for the Falcons in a single season in program history behind only last year's five recipients.
- Falcons Break Multiple Records In Season Finale At MAC TournamentAVON, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team concluded the 2025 campaign on Thursday (May 22) in the MAC Tournament. The Falcons first played Toledo in a game that started at 9 a.m., paused at 10:25 a.m. for weather and then resumed at 5 p.m., going to a 14-12 final. BGSU then turned to Eastern Michigan, rallying back in the ninth inning to force extras, but the Eagles took the game in the 10th with a 10-7 final score to conclude the Bowling Green season at 33-21.
- BGSU-Toledo MAC Tournament Game Postponed To Thursday At 9 a.m.AVON, Ohio – Due to current weather conditions and continuing weather conditions through the night, today's game between Bowling Green and Toledo in the first round of the MAC Tournament has been postponed to Thursday (May 22) at 9 a.m. From there, the tournament will proceed as planned, attempting to play four games on Thursday.
