Falcons Complete First Sweep At Central In Program History With Extra Innings Victory
MOUNT PLEASANT, MICH. – The Bowling Green State University baseball team finished off the three-game weekend series sweep over Central Michigan on Sunday (March 30) with a 6-5 extra innings win. The sweep marks the first for BGSU on the road at CMU in program history. Connar Penrod closed down the save for Bowling Green, his third of the weekend and eighth of the season. Penrod is now tied for the program record for saves in a season while the team as a whole is also tied for the program record for saves in a season. The Falcons advance to 20-7 on the year while being 10-2 within the MAC.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the top of the second, Sam Seidel singled for the first hit of the game. He stole second and took third on a fly out, but wasn't able to find a way home, keeping the game scoreless.
- Central Michigan scored four in the bottom of the second inning to take a 4-0 lead.
- With two outs in the fourth inning, Seidel logged his second single of the day and followed with his second stolen base. The swipe set up an RBI single off the bat of Caden Parker for the first BGSU run of the game.
- After a scoreless fifth inning, TJ Takats started off the sixth with a double to left center. Later in the inning, DJ Newman drove a single up the middle to score Takats for a 4-2 score.
- The Chippewas added a run in the seventh inning to push their lead to 5-2.
- In the eighth, Gunner Antillon walked before a Takats fielder's choice put two on base for the Orange and Brown. With two on, Garrett Wright delivered a single up the middle to score Antillon for a 5-3 tally.
- The rally continued in the inning. Brady Birchmeier drew a walk to load the bases before Seidel made contact on his third single of the day, pushing home both Takats and Wright for a 5-5 tie game.
- Wright started extra innings with a single before Newman was walked. Back-to-back flyouts from Birchmeier and Seidel moved Wright to third and then home for a 6-5 advantage.

- The three-game series sweep for Bowling Green is the first in program history on the road against Central Michigan.
- Connar Penrod closed down his third save of the weekend, eighth of the season and ninth of his career. Penrod is now tied for the program record for saves in a season with eight, matching Tony Landi (2016) and Bob Reichow (1996). As for his career, Penrod now has nine saves, tying for ninth in program history with four other players.
- Penrod's save marked the 12th of the season for the Orange and Brown, tying the program record for saves in a season. The total matches the marks set by the 2010, 2009 and 1994 teams.
- Owen Poole earned the win for the Falcons, his third of the season. Poole now leads the team in wins on the mound this year.
- Sam Seidel stole two bases for the Falcons, marking his second time this season with multiple stolen bases in a game. He also added three hits in the game, his 11th multi-hit game this year. His three RBI were also his seventh multi-RBI game of the year as well.
- Caden Parker singled in the fourth inning to extend his on-base streak to a team-best 19 games for the Falcons.
- With a single in the eighth inning, Garrett Wright pushed his on-base streak to 15 games, second on the team. Wright finished with multiple hits, his 14th multi-hit game of the season.
- DJ Newman swiped a pair of bases for the Falcons, this first time this year with multiple stolen bases for the Orange and Brown.

The Falcons will stay on the road to begin the month of April, scheduled for a midweek contest at Michigan State on Wednesday (April 2) at 4:05 p.m. From there, BGSU will return home to host the Miami RedHawks in a three-game weekend series (April 4-6).

- Connar Penrod Named MAC Pitcher Of The WeekCLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced the MAC Player and Pitcher of the Week Monday afternoon (March 31). Of those named, Connar Penrod earned the Pitcher of the Week honor. This marks the first honor of Penrod's BGSU career while being the second for the Falcons after Brady Birchmeier was named MAC Co-Player of the Week on March 17.
