Slater Family Ice Arena to Host Community Open House on October 2
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Bowling Green State University (BGSU) is excited to announce the long-anticipated completion of the Slater Family Ice Arena (SFIA) renovations. To unveil the completion of the SFIA renovations, there will be a Community Open House on Wed., Oct. 2, 2024, at 6 p.m.
The event will offer the public an exclusive first look at the newly upgraded facilities, including the modernized mezzanine, hockey alumni lounge, and locker rooms. Attendees will also have the chance to meet BGSU hockey student-athletes and join them for a guided tour of their newly renovated spaces. Fans and season ticket holders alike can sign up for the event by clicking here.
Following the Open House, a special event will be held exclusively for season ticket holders to continue the celebration of these exciting improvements.
The recent $5.75 million renovation, led by Columbus-based architecture firm Moody Nolan, has transformed the Slater Family Ice Arena into a more modern, functional, and accessible facility. Key upgrades include enhancements to building systems, safety measures, and accessibility features, and a complete overhaul of the locker rooms and restrooms.
Additionally, a brand-new mezzanine has been constructed on the south end of the main rink. This state-of-the-art area now offers private suites, a club room, concessions, extra spectator seating, and a 1,000 square-foot lobby at the west main entrance. The redesigned entrance will highlight the achievements of the arena and its teams, featuring space for trophy displays and supporting future growth and success.
First opened in 1967 and renamed in 2017, the Slater Family Ice Arena is a centerpiece of Bowling Green's athletic and community life. It serves as the home of the NCAA Division I Bowling Green Falcon ice hockey team, which competes in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA). Additionally, the arena is a key venue for high school hockey teams, the Bowling Green Skating Club, and the Bowling Green Youth Hockey Association.
Beyond hosting competitive events, the Slater Family Ice Arena offers a variety of community programs, including public skating, learn-to-skate lessons, youth hockey, figure skating, and adult hockey leagues.
