BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Seven goals, including four in a 4:11 stretch in the third period, helped rocket the Bowling Green hockey team past Robert Morris, 7-2, in an exhibition home opener at the Slater Family Ice Arena.

It was the most goals the Falcons have scored in any type of game at home since December 6, 2019, when they notched nine against Alabama Huntsville.

The Colonials struck first just 59 seconds into the game, but the Falcons answered over four minutes later with a Maxwell Martin goal (Adam Schankula assist) off a rebound in front of the net to tie it up at 1-1.

It remained knotted through the end of the first period. Then, BG broke the tie when Brett Pfoh scored when the puck deflected off him near the net from a Breck McKinley shot attempt at the point with 8:12 remaining in the stanza.

The 1,819 in attendance got their money's worth in the third, as the Falcons poured in five of their goals in the period. Dalton Norris was the first to strike when he buried a puck that went in between the Colonials' goalie's legs in front of the net to give BGSU a 3-1 advantage.

Just 33 seconds later, Schankula delivered when the puck deflected off him after a shot from Ben Wozney to make it 4-1. Less than a minute after, Ryan O'Hara found twine on a shot that trickled into the bottom left corner of the net.

The Colonials added a score 30 seconds after, but O'Hara notched a power play goal and O'Hanisain scored to seal the deal for the Falcons.

"In the second intermission, we felt like we hadn't played our best hockey even though we were winning," Pfoh said. "[Robert Morris] was a team we thought we could get some bounces on and find a way to get some pucks in the net. I think the guys responded really well as we scored three shifts in a row."

BGSU flexed their depth against the Colonials, as 12 different Falcons recorded at least a point and five lines played. The Falcons also outshot the Colonials, 42-25, and Cole Moore made 23 saves in net.

"We have to continue to do what we do and compete like we did in the third [period]," head coach Dennis Williams said. "Now, we just have to find a consistency to it so that the day our fans and community are really supportive of our style of play."

Bowling Green will be back on the ice at home on Sunday, October 13 for another exhibition game as Simon Fraser from British Columbia, Canada comes to town. Faceoff begins at 5:07 p.m.
