BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Curtis Carr has been promoted to associate head coach of the Bowling Green State University hockey program, head coach Dennis Williams announced Wednesday (May 21).

Carr, who joined the Falcons as an assistant coach in 2019, served as interim head coach at the start of the 2023-24 season. He has played a key role in the development of the program's defensive core, special teams units, and overall day-to-day operations.

"I am very excited about promoting Curtis to associate head coach," Williams said. "Curtis has shown since Day one his passion and commitment for Falcon Hockey. His work ethic, loyalty and knowledge for the game has been unparalleled. He has been instrumental in leading our PK and defensemen, as well as our day-to-day operations. More importantly, he has great passion for player development and seeing our student-athletes excel not only on the ice but in the classroom. This is a great day for BG Hockey."

"I'm honored and humbled to take on the role of associate head coach at Bowling Green," Carr said. "This program means a great deal to me, and I'm grateful to Coach Williams and the administration for their trust and support. We have a strong culture, great student-athletes, and a passionate fan base. I look forward to continuing to help our players grow on and off the ice and to contribute to the long-term success of Falcon Hockey."

Carr will continue to lead the team's penalty kill unit and defensemen, areas where BGSU has excelled during his tenure. In 2022-23, the Falcons finished third in the CCHA and ranked 10th nationally in penalty kill percentage (84.4). That season, Bowling Green tied for fourth in the NCAA with seven shorthanded goals and set a program record with 12.72 blocked shots per game. Defenseman Dalton Norris earned CCHA All-Rookie honors, becoming the fourth consecutive defenseman under Carr's mentorship to garner all-conference recognition.

Prior to his time at Bowling Green, Carr spent eight seasons at Merrimack College, including four as associate head coach. He previously served as head coach and general manager of the USHL's Youngstown Phantoms, as well as assistant coach and director of player personnel with the NAHL's Mahoning Valley Phantoms. Across both organizations, more than 60 players under Carr's guidance earned NCAA scholarships.

A native of Georgetown, Ontario, Carr spent seven seasons as a player and coach at Kent State University. He was a three-time ACHA All-American and, upon graduating in 2003, joined the Golden Flashes' staff as an assistant coach. He was later promoted to head coach, earning ACHA Coach of the Year finalist honors after leading the program to the ACHA National Tournament. In his first season at the helm, Carr led Kent State to a 21-18 record after inheriting a 9-30 team.

Carr is also actively involved with USA Hockey's Select and Developmental Camps and serves as a presenter for the organization's Coaching Education Program. He earned a bachelor's degree in physical education with a teacher certification and a master's degree in sports administration and recreation management from Kent State.

He and his wife, Margaret, have four children: Emma, Sara, Molly and Lucas.
