Dennis Williams Officially Announces His Inaugural BGSU Staff

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Bowling Green State University men's ice hockey coach Dennis Williams as officially announced he has retained the entire assistant coaching staff. Curtis Carr, Stavros Paskaris, Dylan Schoen and Buddy Powers will all be part of Williams' first staff in his return to BGSU.
 
Carr, Paskaris and Schoen are all three assistant coaches, while Powers is the director of player development.
 
"We are really excited to be keeping our staff in place moving forward," said Williams.  "Curt, Stavros and Dylan have done a tremendous job during the transition and have demonstrated great loyalty to BGSU hockey. All three have garnered the upmost respect from our players and alumni. Their commitment to seeing our players succeed not only on the ice but in the classroom has been evident since day one. I look forward to working with all three as we begin to build for the 2024-2025 season."
 
Carr enters his sixth season with BGSU Hockey this fall. He joined the Falcons in the fall of 2019 after eight years with Merrimack College. Before Carr's stop in Massachusetts, he spent five years with the Youngstown Phantoms (USHL). Prior to his time in in the USHL, Carr spent three seasons as an assistant coach and director of player personnel for the NAHL's Mahoning Valley Phantoms. Carr served as interim head coach for BGSU at the beginning of the 2023-24 season, for the first four games. 

A native of Georgetown, Ontario, Carr spent seven seasons as a player and coach for Kent State and was a three-time ACHA All-American. Carr is a 2003 graduate from Kent State University with a bachelor's degree in physical education with a teacher certification and a master's in sports administration and recreation management. Carr was hired as an assistant coach for 2003-04 before being promoted to head coach for the Golden Flashes.

Paskaris enters his fourth season with Falcon Hockey. He joined the Falcons in May of 2021. Prior to Bowling Green, Paskaris spent the 2020-21 season with the Dartmouth hockey program. During the 2020-21 season, the Ivy League canceled the athletic seasons resulting in Paskaris not appearing on the bench during that season. Before Dartmouth, Paskaris was a part of the Princeton hockey staff serving as an assistant coach from 2014-20. In 2018, the Tigers' were ECAC Hockey Champions and made an appearance in the NCAA Tournament.  Paskaris started his coaching career at Adrian College, serving as an assistant for five seasons. He was the team's recruiting coordinator in addition to being the first assistant on the staff.

A native of Dearborn, Mich., Paskaris earned his bachelor's degree from Wayne State in 2008 and master's from Ohio University in 2009. At Wayne State, Paskaris was a four-year member of the varsity hockey program. He also played for the Dayton Bombers in the ECHL.

Schoen enters his second season with the Orange and Brown after being hired in July of 2023. Schoen works with the goaltenders for the Falcons. This past season Schoen coached standout rookie, Cole Moore. Moore was named to the All-CCHA Rookie Team, named CCHA Goaltender of the week three times and Rookie of the week once. Moore was also named CCHA Rookie of the Month twice during the season. Prior to Bowling Green, Schoen served as a volunteer assistant for Bemidji State during the 2022-23 season. Prior to Bemidji, Schoen served as an assistant for the Maryland Black Bears in 2021-22 and a goaltending coach for the Amarillo Bulls in 2020-21, both in the NAHL.

Schoen played collegiately for four seasons, playing his first two for SUNY-Geneseo before spending his final two seasons at Stevenson, both Division III. He also spent two seasons with the Connecticut Nighthawks in the EHL before his collegiate career.
 
Powers enters his third season as a volunteer assistant for the Falcons in the role of player development, Powers re-joined the Falcons in 2022-23. His coaching career began at Colgate, then he joined BGSU as an assistant in 1982. In his first season with the Falcons, Powers coached George McPhee, who became the program's first Hobey Baker Memorial Award winner. Two seasons later, Powers helped the Falcons capture BGSU's first and only national title.

"I am extremely excited to work alongside Buddy," said Williams. "As a former player I have always had the upmost respect for Buddy and over the years have kept a great friendship. I look forward to utilizing Buddy's experience and knowledge as we progress forward to the 2023-2024 season."

Powers spent time as the head coach at RIT and RPI before returning to Bowling Green as the head coach in 1994-95. During his first season back with the Orange and Brown he mentored the Falcons' second Hobey Baker winner, Brian Holzinger. The Falcons finished the year with a 25-11-2 record and Powers earning CCHA Coach of the Year. Powers also served as Williams' head coach at BGSU. Through eight years as BGSU's head coach, he totaled 135 wins, fourth-most in program history.

Powers also spent time as the BGSU Ice Arena Director and color commentator for BCSN. He coached with the US National Development Team and served on the NCAA Division I Ice Hockey Committee. Powers served as assistant for Boston University from 2009-14. Prior to returning to BG, he spent eight seasons as a scout for the NHL's Dallas Stars.

Powers graduated from Boston University in 1975, playing three seasons with the Terriers before playing professionally in Germany for four seasons.
