Falcons Fall to Broncos in Kalamazoo, Mich, 6-2 for First Loss of the Season

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Bowling Green Falcons (2-1-0) dropped their first game of the 2024-25 season against ranked #16/17 Western Michigan (3-0-0), 6-2. The Falcons were able to score two goals to tie the game at two in the second period but were never able to reach the Broncos after that.

Notables 

  • Sophomore Ben Doran scored his first goal of the year to tie the game at 2-2 and fourth of his career
  • Sophomore Brody Waters scored his third goal in as many games to gain sole ownership of the team lead in goals
  • Junior Brett Pfoh recorded his first assist of the season on Doran's goal in the second period 
  • Junior Jaden Grant skated  in his 75th career game as a Falcon 

By the Numbers

How it Happened 

  • Western Michigan struck first in the first period with two quick goals to make the score, 2-0. 
  • Bowling Green was able to cut the Bronco lead in half before the first intermission. Just over eight minutes left in the first frame, graduate student Ville Immonen won the faceoff back to Waters at the top of the right-hand circle who fired a shot past the goalkeeper. With the goal, Waters takes sole ownership of the team lead in goals and has three goals in as many games.
  • The Falcons started the second, where they ended the first and added another goal. At 5:38 in the second period, Pfoh skated down the left-hand side on the forecheck of the power play, where he found Doran skating down the middle of the ice for the pass. Doran shot the puck past the glove side of the Western Michigan goalie to tie the game at 2-2.
  • The Broncos would go on a to score four unanswered goals in the second period to extend their lead to 6-2.
  • BGSU had opportunities to cut into the lead in the third period but were unable to find the back of the net. Pfoh was able to put on in the back of the net late in the third period after toe dragging a Western Michigan defender but after a review the goal was called back for goaltender interference.
