BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Hockey Commissioners Association (HCA) has announced a "Watch List" of 35 goalies that will compete for the Mike Richter Award, given annually to the top goalie in men's NCCA Division I hockey. Senior goaltender Christian Stoever has been named to the watch list for the second time in his career, after being named to the list for the 2022-23 season.
Of the 35 goalies, 12 hail from the United States with Michigan leading all states with four selections, including the Northville, Mich. native. Stoever joins Josh Kotai from Augustana and Alex Tracy from Minnesota State representing the CCHA.
To be eligible for the award, goaltender must meet a minimum GAA 2.30 or less and have a save percentage of .920 or greater. Stoever currently has a GAA of 1.77 which is sixth best in the NCAA and a .947 save percentage, which tops all NCAA D1 goaltenders. The senior has played in eight games so far this season and has 248 saves and two shutouts in 474:16 of playing time.
A committee of voters — made up of a cross section of coaches, administrators, scouts and media — will pare this list down to approximately a dozen semifinalists within the next three weeks and then ultimately choose a winner from three finalists who will be announced in April during the NCAA Frozen Four.
