Coaches Show Set For Full Slate With Simon, Chmiel, DelPiombo Joining Monday Night
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The weekly Falcons Nest Coaches Show presented by Fricker's, returns Monday night (Jan. 13) on Falcon Sports Radio Network stations. The "Voice of the Falcons" Todd Walker will be joined by three guests over the course of the show. Head men's basketball coach Todd Simon will leadoff this week followed by head women's basketball coach Fred Chmiel and the newly named head volleyball coach Alex DelPiombo. The show will begin at 6 p.m. inside Fricker's where fans can watch live.

The men's basketball team will be home for three of their next four games, including two at the Stroh Center this week. The homestand will begin on Tuesday (Jan. 14) against Buffalo at 7 p.m. with the Falcon Fanatics hosting a Canned Food Drive at the game. Bowling Green will remain at home for their next game, hosting Eastern Michigan on Saturday (Jan. 18) with a 2 p.m. The game against EMU will be the Bill Frack Game and Alumni Day for the Orange and Brown.
The women's basketball team will be on the road to begin the week before returning home on Saturday (Jan. 18). The schedule will send them to Athens against the Ohio Bobcats on Wednesday (Jan. 15) with a 7 p.m. start. From there, Bowling Green will be back at home on Saturday (Jan. 18) as part of a basketball double-header with the men's team. The women are set for a 7 p.m. tip against Northern Illinois with the game being Play 4Kay.
The volleyball team just recently announced the hiring of Alex DelPiombo as the new head coach of the program following the departure of Danijela Tomic, becoming the head coach at the University of Cincinnati. DelPiombo joined the BGSU staff in 2016 before being elevated to associate head coach in 2019. During her nine seasons with the Falcons, the Orange and Brown posted a 186-91 overall record while going 125-32 in MAC play.

- Falcons Land Seven On Academic All-MAC TeamCLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced Monday morning (Dec. 30) the 2024 Volleyball Academic All-MAC Team. A total of 83 student-athletes were named across the conference with Bowling Green totaling seven. Ball State led the way in the MAC with 10, followed closely by Western Michigan's nine and Toledo's eight. The Falcons were one of six teams in the MAC with seven honorees. Bowling Green has now had at least seven student-athletes named Academic All-MAC in each of the last nine seasons.

DelPiombo spent nine years on Danijela Tomic's BGSU staff.
- Danijela Tomic Leaves BGSU to Lead the Cincinnati Bearcats Volleyball ProgramBOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Bowling Green State University (BGSU) volleyball head coach Danijela Tomic has been hired for the same position at the University of Cincinnati. Tomic departs BGSU as the program's second-winningest coach, amassing a 236-161 record and a program-best seven Mid-American Conference (MAC) championships. Her .594 winning percentage is the highest in the 49-year history of the program.
- Hovey Earns First Career AVCA All-American Honor, Third In Program HistoryLEXINGTON, Ky. – The American Volleyball Coaches Associate (AVCA) announced on Wednesday morning (Dec. 18) the list of All-American recipients for the 2024 campaign. Among those named was Bowling Green's junior opposite hitter, Lauryn Hovey. This marks Hovey's first career All-American honor and the third in BGVB history.
- Falcons Conclude Historic Season With Electric Five-Set Finish In NIVC ChampionshipTUCSON, Ariz. – The Bowling Green State University volleyball team concluded their historic run in the NIVC Championship Tuesday night (Dec. 17) against Arizona. The Falcons and Wildcats traded sets through the first four up until Arizona took the fifth for the match. As a team, the Falcons landed 10 aces in the match, breaking the program's single-season aces record. Additionally, Alexis Mettille secured her spot in the BGVB record book, breaking the program records for single-season and career hitting percentages. The two records add to a long list of historic accomplishments this season for the Falcons.
