Jessica Andrews One Of 10 NCAA Student-Athletes Selected To Participate In VNL
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Bowling Green State University middle blocker Jessica Andrews has been selected to the Team Canada roster in this year's Volleyball Nations League. Andrews is one of 10 NCAA student-athletes picked to play in the VNL this year, joining two players from Pitt and one from each of Charlotte, Florida, Illinois, Miami (FL), Oregon, Texas A&M and Washington State. In total, 18 countries are represented with 30-player rosters, creating a pool of just 540 athletes selected to participate. A vast majority of the athletes selected consist of current professional players. Andrews is the first Falcon and believed to be the first MAC player selected to compete.
"We've watched Jessica work towards this goal since the recruiting process in high school," said BGSU head coach Alex DelPiombo. "It has been an honor to see her commitment and dedication to her development lead her in achieving her goals. Jessica's success is not an accident; it has been consistent focus and choices towards improvement. We couldn't be more proud of her and she knows our Falcon Faithful are fully behind her."
Andrews is coming off an impressive 2024 campaign for the Orange and Brown. She tallied 160 total blocks for the Falcons, breaking the program's Rally Scoring Era record for single-season total blocks and ranking seventh all-time while finishing 16th in the nation. Of those, 137 were recorded as block assists, coming in second during the Rally Scoring Era and third all-time. On the attack, Andrews hit .327 for BGSU with 233 kills on 526 attacks with just 61 errors. The mark went down as the sixth-best single-season hitting percentage during BGSU's Rally Scoring Era. Andrews' efforts culminated in a All-MAC First Team selection.
As for Andrews' career, she's already made moves into the record book. Her 307 career block assists are fifth during the Falcons' Rally Scoring Era while ranking 10th all-time. Additionally, her 51 career solo blocks are fourth and her 358 career total blocks are fifth, both in the Rally Scoring Era record section. Andrews added her first double-double as well in 2024, logging a season-high 10 blocks against Western Michigan in the MAC Semifinal to go along with 16 kills.
As of now, Canada will have their first match on June 4 against Bulgaria as part of Pool 1. The first four matches for Canada will be played in Ottawa, going against Bulgaria, Netherlands, Japan and Serbia. The full schedule for the VNL will be known at a later date.
