Jessica Andrews Called Up To Team Canada At World Championships
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Bowling Green State University middle blocker Jessica Andrews has been called up to Canada's National Team that will be competing at the 2025 World Championships in Thailand. Andrews has been competing with Team Canada at the Pan-Am Volleyball Cup and will now transition to the National Team. Andrews will be one of 25 athletes to represent Team Canada.
"We are incredibly proud of Jess for earning this opportunity with Team Canada," said assistant coach Alexa Wharton. "She's worked tirelessly to develop her game and her presence on the court, and it's exciting to see her hard work recognized on the international stage. We can't wait to watch her compete among the world's best in Thailand."
The first match for Andrews and Team Canada in the World Championships will be on Aug. 23 against Bulgaria as part of Pool E in the Preliminary Phase. From there, play will continue Aug. 25 against Spain before concluding the Preliminary Phase within Pool E on Aug. 27 against Turkey. The top two teams from each pool will then advance to the Round of 16, following a typical bracket format from the Round of 16 on. The Championship match will be held on Sept. 7.
Andrews is coming off an impressive 2024 campaign for the Orange and Brown. She tallied 160 total blocks for the Falcons, breaking the program's Rally Scoring Era record for single-season total blocks and ranking seventh all-time while finishing 16th in the nation. Of those, 137 were recorded as block assists, coming in second during the Rally Scoring Era and third all-time. On the attack, Andrews hit .327 for BGSU with 233 kills on 526 attacks with just 61 errors. The mark went down as the sixth-best single-season hitting percentage during BGSU's Rally Scoring Era. Andrews' efforts culminated in a All-MAC First Team selection.
As for Andrews' career, she's already made moves into the record book. Her 307 career block assists are fifth during the Falcons' Rally Scoring Era while ranking 10th all-time. Additionally, her 51 career solo blocks are fourth and her 358 career total blocks are fifth, both in the Rally Scoring Era record section. Andrews added her first double-double as well in 2024, logging a season-high 10 blocks against Western Michigan in the MAC Semifinal to go along with 16 kills.

Bozic, a 6-foot-1 outside hitter, will come to the Falcons as a freshman from Panzevo, Serbia. Hobson, a 6-foot-1 junior outside hitter, will arrive in Bowling Green from Duquesne.
