The summer 2024 Doctoral Hooding ceremony will be held on Friday, Dec. 13, at 3:30 p.m. inside the Donnell Theater at the Wolfe Center for the Arts.All graduates will have the opportunity to cross the commencement stage and receive a diploma cover. All graduates who wish to attend the ceremony are required to complete the RSVP form. Join us for our Black History Month Guest Lecture, hosted by the Department of History at BGSU.Dr. Modupe Labode is the Curator of the Division of Political History in the African American History Curatorial Collective at the National Museum of American History, Smithsonian Institute.She will present: "Reckoning with Remembrance: Interpreting the Life and Legacy of Emmett Till at the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History." Her talk will focus on the interpretation of a vandalized historical marker commemorating the site where Emmett Till's body was recovered from the Tallahatchie River in 1955. The talk will focus on the exhibition team's ongoing relationship with the communities in Mississippi that created historical markers for the sites related to Emmett Till's life and legacy in Mississippi. She will focus on practices of Restorative History and the meaning of interpreting Black history in a general history museum.This lecture is free and open to the public.Guests can explore the exhibit online at the Smithsonian's website here

Recipients are selected based on nomination letters and supporting materials—students cannot apply for this award themselves.Eligibility Criteria:Completed at least 75 credit hours, with plans to graduate the following springMaintain a minimum GPA of 2.75Special consideration is given to students involved in the C. Raymond Marvin Center for Student Leadership and Civic EngagementSelection Process: Nominees will be evaluated on their leadership development and impact as a BGSU student. All nominations will be reviewed and ranked by staff from the Marvin Center for Student Leadership and Civic Engagement.Award Details: Recipients will receive a $5,000 award in recognition of their leadership and contributions to the BGSU community.Nominate a rising senior who exemplifies exceptional leadership today!

Join us for the 2025 Women's History Month Guest Lecture, presented by the Department of History at BGSU.Dr. Tracey Hanshew, of Eastern Oregon University, will present her research on rural women in the American West. Dr. Hanshew will explore the iconic cowgirl image and its significant roles within the Western genre.
