BGSU Hockey Picks Up a Point in Tie with Bemidji State

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green Falcons (11-7-3, CCHA 7-4-3) picked up one point against the Bemidji State Beavers (8-10-4, 5-6-3) in a 4-4, SOL, 2-0 on Saturday night. In the win, senior Ryan O'Hara recorded three points with two goals and an assist.

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green Falcons (11-7-3, CCHA 7-4-3) picked up one point against the Bemidji State Beavers (8-10-4, 5-6-3) in a 4-4, SOL, 2-0 on Saturday night. In the tie, senior Ryan O'Hara recorded three points with two goals and an assist.

  • Sophomore Brody Water tallied his fifth multi-point game of the season with a goal and an assist

By The Numbers 

How It Happened 

  • The Falcons opened the scoring at 14:24 in the first period. Sophomore Ben Doran took an initial shot that was saved by the Bemidji goaltender. The initial shot trickled behind the goaltender and senior Ryan O'Hara tapped in the puck to make the score 1-0.
  • Neither team found the net for the rest of the first period with the Falcons out-shooting the Beavers 16 to 10. 
  • BGSU scored on a beautiful goal from graduate Ethan Scardina. Sophomore Brody Waters brought the puck into the zone and passed the puck to senior Jackson Niedermayer. Niedermayer passed the puck across the zone to Scardina to take a shot that went past the goaltender.
  • In the second period, the Falcons had three opportunities on the power-play, capitalizing on one with Waters scoring his team leading 11th goal of the season. O'Hara passed the puck across the zone to junior Dalton Norris on the right circle dot. Norris found Waters on the left backside of the net to tap it in for a 3-0 lead. 
  • The Beavers found two goals in the second period to make the score 3-2 going into the third period. 
  • At 6:53 in the third period, O'Hara scored his second goal of the night. After the initial stop was made by the Bemidji goaltender. O'Hara took a low angle shot from the goal-line that went in. 
  • The Beavers would find two extra man goals in the final three minutes to force overtime. 
  • At 19:26, graduate Tommy Pasanen was called for cross checking, giving the Beavers a 4 on 3 advantage to start the overtime period. Norris joined Pasanen in the box when he was called for holding 39 seconds into overtime to give the Beavers a 5 on 3 advantage. 
  • Senior Christian Stoever made five saves in the overtime period including several diving and kick saves to keep the Beavers off the board when the Falcons were down two skaters in overtime. 
  • In the shootout, the Beavers were able to score on their first two attempts while BGSU was unable to score.
